Make a focused conversation count

A practical guide to preparing the question, context, and follow-up for a focused working conversation.

Useful advice starts before the Meeting. A clear question gives the Host something concrete to examine and gives you a way to judge whether the conversation helped.

Name the decision

Write down the decision, obstacle, or tradeoff in one sentence. If the sentence contains several problems, choose the one that matters now. You can always book another conversation for the rest.

Bring the smallest useful context

  • Share the facts that change the decision.
  • Remove background that the Host does not need.
  • Attach private working material to the Meeting instead of sending public links.
  • Say what you already tried and what happened.

Leave with an agreement

Use the final minutes to name the next action, its owner, and the evidence that will show whether it worked. The durable chat and attachments stay with the Meeting, so the useful context does not disappear when the call ends.
